The City of Whiteville is seeking to fill the position of Police Officer.  This position independently performs a full range of law enforcement duties in the areas of community policing, school resources, traffic, investigation, and patrol duties.  Work is performed under the general direct supervision of the Police Sergeant on the assigned shift or program area, and is evaluated through observation, review of reports, and discussions concerning how particular incidents or activities were handled.

The City of Whiteville Police Department is currently seeking qualified applicants for its Police Officer position.  Duties and responsibilities for this position includes but not limited to patrolling a geographic area or specific location within the City during a shift in a police car or on foot, preventing, detecting, and investigating disturbances and crime, investigating traffic accidents, helping victims, and performing traffic control, appending suspects, testifying in court, and executing related assignments. 

All applicants must have obtained a completed and minimum requirements established by the North Carolina Justice Training and Standards Commission for certified law enforcement officers and possession of the appropriate certificates as required by the City.  Desirable education and experience are completion of a two-year associate degree in Criminal Justice or graduation from high school supplemented by basic courses in police science, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
