The City of Whiteville is seeking to fill the position of Utilities Crew Leader.  This position performs a variety of work including lead worker duties, operating medium to heavy construction equipment in the installation, replacement and repair of water and sewer lines, and assisting with worker level duties.   Work also includes making taps to water and sewer mains, installing water hydrants, installing residential and commercial meters and valves, and making repairs to the water and sewer system. Employees are subject to working in both inside and outside environments, in extreme hot and cold weather, and exposure to various hazards such as loud noises, vibration, moving mechanical parts, electrical current, chemicals, fumes, odors, dusts, mists, gases, poor ventilation, and oils.   Employees are also subject to working in water or sew pipes and manholes; work around raw sewage is also subject to the final standards of OSHA on bloodborn pathogens.  Employees are also subject to on-call and callback work.

This person must possess a minimum of a valid Class B North Carolina Commercial driver’s license with tanker endorsements and considerable experience in construction-related utility work including experience medium to heavy equipment operation.  Any combination of education and experience equivalent to ability to read and write and some experience in semi-skilled maintenance or construction work, which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities, is required.  If you are a proactive person and want to be part of a professional team and growing organization, this could be the right place for you!
